Examples of the identification of mutant strains with increased antibacterial activity. Cells that survived under UV irradiation were incubated for 4 days at 30°C. Agar plugs covering grown cells were constructed using autoclaved glass bottles and put onto LB plates containing S. aureus cells. Streptomyces sp. SJ1-7 cells unexposed to UV irradiation was used as a control (WT). The antibacterial activity was determined through measuring the diameter of inhibition zone. We selected the mutant strains showing increased antibacterial activity (red boxes). The numbers in boxes indicate the number of selected mutant strains.
