Pleiotropic phenotypes of the lapB mutant.
(A) Various phenotypes of the lapB mutant in complex media. The wild-type and lapB mutant cells were serially diluted from 108 cells/ml to 104 cells/ml in 10-fold serial dilutions and spotted onto LB plates without or with indicated chemicals, or alkaline or acidic LB plates. Besides plates presenting incubation temperature, all plates were incubated at 37°C. (B) Various phenotypes of the lapB mutant in chemically defined media. The wild-type and lapB mutant cells were serially diluted from 108 cells/ml to 104 cells/ml in 10-fold serial dilutions and spotted onto M9 minimal medium plates containing indicated carbon sources. M9(-NH3) means M9 minimal medium without ammonium salt. All plates were incubated at 37°C.
